Varo Coffee Table - Emperador

The Varo Coffee Table in Emperador is a marble coffee table 120cm wide, 90cm deep and 38cm high, with a rounded rectangular top on four curved stone legs. Emperador is a deep chocolate brown carrying a fine network of cream and tan veining. Some assembly is required on delivery.

A dark marble does something a pale one cannot: it holds the centre of a room down. Where a cream table floats and lets the eye pass over it, this one anchors, and everything arranged above it reads as lighter by comparison. That works best under pale upholstery and can close a room in noticeably if the sofa is dark as well, which is worth testing before committing.

The veining here is fine and widely distributed rather than dramatic, so the effect at a distance is of a solid warm brown that resolves into detail as you get closer. That is a useful quality in a coffee table specifically, because it is a surface people look down at from a metre away far more often than they look at from across the room.
