Turner Barstool - Birch Boucle - Matt Bone

The Turner Barstool in Birch Boucle - Matt Bone is 47cm wide, 51cm deep and 72.5cm high to the seat. The low back gives something to lean on without standing above the benchtop line. It suits a kitchen island where the stools are seen from the living side.

Seat height is the only measurement that matters when buying a barstool, and 72.5cm suits a standard kitchen bench of about 90 to 95cm. Allow roughly 25 to 30cm between seat and benchtop underside for knees; much less and it is uncomfortable, much more and it feels like perching.

A low back is the compromise worth making at an island. A tall back gives more support but blocks the view across the bench from the living area, which is usually the whole point of an open kitchen.

The practical note is the floor. Barstools get dragged more than any other seat in a house, so check the feet and add felt pads before they go onto timber.
