Seb Pedestal Side Table - Rope

The Seb Pedestal Side Table in Rope is 50cm wide, 30cm deep and 39cm high, on a cantilevered pedestal. The top reaches out past the base, so it slides over the arm of a chair or the edge of a bed. At 30cm deep it takes almost no floor.

A cantilever is the answer to a problem a four-legged table cannot solve: getting a surface over something else. The base sits clear of the chair and the top comes to you, which is why this shape keeps appearing beside sofas and beds.

At 50cm by 30cm the top is narrow and long rather than square. That is enough for a laptop, a book or a cup, and deliberately not enough to become a surface things accumulate on.

The caveat is the physics. A cantilevered top concentrates load at the base, so it is not the table to lean on or to sit a heavy lamp at the far edge of. Keep the weight near the middle.
