Ryoko Ceramic Flower Pot

The Ryoko Ceramic Flower Pot is a 24cm white stoneware pot carrying Naoko Rodgers' signature black outline work. It's hand built and high temperature fired. Slightly larger than its companion pieces at 18cm high.

The black outline lifts this above a plain white pot. A drawn line on hand built ceramic follows the form rather than sitting perfectly straight, so it traces the small irregularities of the making instead of concealing them, and that is the whole idea behind the signature.

At 24 x 18cm this takes a reasonably substantial plant, and the extra couple of centimetres over the smaller pots in the range matters more than it sounds when you are trying to fit a root ball. Stoneware fired at high temperature is genuinely durable, so this is not a piece to keep for special occasions. Grouped with the plain white pots from the same maker, the outlined one gives a shelf a focal point without introducing a different material or colour.
