Short and wide is a specific shape with specific uses. It gives a plant room to spread sideways, which suits trailing or bushy foliage far better than a tall narrow pot that forces everything upward.

The low centre of gravity is a practical bonus. A wide-based pot does not tip when a plant grows top-heavy, which matters on a console or a shelf where a fall would take other things with it. White porcelain keeps it clean and quiet, letting green foliage read strongly against it. It works particularly well with faux plants, where the consistent colour of artificial foliage pairs neatly with a consistently white vessel.
