Miles Occasional Chair

The Miles Occasional Chair is upholstered in wide rib corduroy over Dacron-padded foam, with curves that interweave into a sculptural silhouette. The seat is 67cm deep on a kiln-dried timber frame. Corduroy here is 100% polyester and easy to clean.

Wide rib corduroy is an unusual upholstery choice and a welcome one. The ribs catch light along their length, so a plain colour gains depth and direction that a flat weave never has, and the texture is immediately recognisable from across a room.

The shape underneath is doing the other half of the work, with curves that run into one another rather than meeting at seams. Dacron over the foam padding is what keeps those curves smooth, since foam alone tends to show its edges through fabric over time. At 67cm the seat is deep, suited to settling in rather than sitting upright, and the comfort is firm and supportive rather than plush. It works in a living room, a home office or a larger entry.
