Keiko Ceramic Fruit Bowl

The Keiko Ceramic Fruit Bowl is a 24cm white stoneware bowl with Naoko Rodgers' signature black outline work. It's hand built and fired at high temperature. Deep enough at 8cm to hold a proper amount of fruit.

The black outline is this maker's signature, and on a white bowl it does a lot of work. A drawn line around a hand built form emphasises the irregularity of the edge rather than hiding it, so the bowl reads as deliberately made by hand instead of imperfectly made by machine.

A fruit bowl lives on the bench in plain view, which makes it one of the few pieces of tableware that has to look good empty. This one manages that. At 24cm across and 8cm deep the proportions are practical too, wide enough to spread fruit so the bottom layer does not bruise, deep enough that things do not roll off. High temperature stoneware means it takes daily handling without chipping easily.
