Floyd Desk - Matt Black

The Floyd Desk in Matt Black is oak veneer under a PU sealer, 180cm wide with two drawers. The centre drawer is 473mm wide, 380mm deep and 75mm high inside, with 1480mm between the legs. Clearance underneath is 635mm.

Black is the finish that makes a desk read as equipment rather than as furniture, which in a working room is often the right answer. Against a pale wall a 180cm matt black plane is a strong horizontal line, and matt rather than gloss means it will not throw a screen reflection back at you.

The practical caution with a dark desk is dust and paper. Both show more on black than on timber, so this suits somebody who keeps a clear surface rather than somebody who works in drifts. What you get in return is that scuffs and pen marks vanish where they would show on ash. The two drawers are shallow at 75mm internally, so plan for a separate unit if you need real storage.
