Elle Block Square Side Table
The Elle Block Square Side Table is 340mm square and 500mm high, built from matt brown vein marble panels sealed with matt resin. The base is stainless steel in a white powder coat. Every panel is individually selected, so no two tables carry the same veining.
Building a block form from marble panels rather than carving it from solid is what makes a table this shape possible at a sensible weight. It also means the veining runs across each face independently, so the piece reads as four related surfaces rather than one continuous stone, which is a different and arguably more interesting effect.
Stainless steel under the powder coat is the specification to note. A mild steel base in a bathroom or a sunroom will eventually bloom rust through the coating at any chip; stainless will not, which matters on a piece narrow enough to be knocked by a vacuum cleaner.
At 340mm square this is a small footprint for a 500mm height, so it reads as a column rather than a table. That suits it to a spot beside an armchair where the surface only needs to hold a cup and a book, or to a hallway where it works as a plinth.
