Bouvier Occasional Chair

The Bouvier Occasional Chair in Midnight is 72cm square and 79.5cm high, fully upholstered on a three-legged base. Three legs rather than four mean it sits level on an uneven floor without rocking. At 72cm square it is a compact single chair.

A three-legged base is not a style decision, it is geometry. Three points define a plane, so the chair cannot rock however uneven the floor, which is why the arrangement keeps appearing on chairs meant for older houses.

At 72cm by 72cm this is a genuinely compact chair, small enough for a bedroom corner or beside a narrow console where a standard armchair would not fit.

The caveat is the same geometry from a different angle. Three legs are less forgiving of being tipped back on, so it is not the chair to lean back in, and the single rear leg makes the balance point closer than it looks.
