Atlas Decagon Dining Table - Satin Red Travertine

The Atlas Decagon Dining Table in Satin Red Travertine is 120cm across and 75cm high, in travertine, on a ten-sided base. The base is faceted rather than round, so it catches light differently as you move around it. At 120cm it seats four generously or six at a squeeze.
Travertine is a different stone from marble and it reads differently. It is more open and warmer in tone, with visible pores rather than polished veining, and on a piece this size that texture is most of the character.
A ten-sided base is the detail worth paying for. It gives a solid pedestal the light and shade a cylinder would not, and it keeps the floor clear so chairs go anywhere around the edge.
Two caveats. Travertine is porous whatever the finish, so wine and oil want wiping immediately rather than at the end of the evening, and a stone table on a pedestal will rock if leaned on hard at the rim with nothing on the far side.
