Ligne noire side plate
The Ligne noire side plate is a 22cm fine bone porcelain plate in white, marked with a single black line. It works for bread, sides or dessert. Part of the wider Ligne collection.
Twenty-two centimetres is the useful in-between size. Too small for a main, too large for a saucer, it covers everything from toast in the morning to a slice of cake after dinner, which is why side plates get used more than their name suggests.
The black line does quiet work at this scale. On a large dinner plate a single line can look lost, but on a smaller plate it sits in proportion and frames whatever is on it. Fine bone porcelain keeps the plate thin enough to stack neatly in a cupboard where space is tight. Building a table from the Ligne collection gives you the line repeating at different diameters, which is a more considered look than matching pattern would be.
