Artie Buffet - Washed Terracotta

The Artie Buffet in Washed Terracotta is built from solid ash and ash veneer, 180cm wide on four slender legs. Four doors open onto three compartments, each with one fixed shelf measuring 815mm wide, 410mm deep and 290mm high inside. It is finished with a water-based sealer.

Washed terracotta is an earthy mid-tone rather than a bright one, closer to a clay pot left in the sun than to anything orange. That makes it easier to live with than the name suggests, and it does something a neutral cannot: it gives a dining room a warm centre to build the rest of the palette around.

One shelf per compartment leaves tall openings, which is the right configuration if you store serving bowls, decanters and pieces that will not lie flat. At 290mm the openings are generous vertically, and 815mm of width means large platters go in the normal way round. The construction combines solid ash with veneer rather than being veneer throughout.
