Artie Buffet - Tobacco Ash
View By Appointment
The Artie Buffet in Tobacco Ash is 180cm wide, 49cm deep and 80cm high, with doors across the front. At 80cm high the top is at bench height, so it works as a serving surface rather than only as storage. The case is lifted on legs rather than sitting to the floor.
Height is what separates a buffet from a sideboard in practice. At 80cm this is the same height as a kitchen bench, which means serving from it does not involve bending, and a lamp or a tray on top sits at a useful level rather than below the eye line.
At 49cm deep the interior takes dinner plates flat and platters at an angle. That is the real test of a dining room cupboard, and a 40cm case fails it however good it looks.
The caveat is the 180cm width. It is a long piece and it needs a wall to itself; put it on a wall with a door or a window at one end and the proportion is lost. Measure the clear run, not the room.
